Our Work
Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week (RISAW)
In 2017 the JRPS Invasive Plant Task Force hosted its first series of events for National Invasive Species Awareness Week, and in 2023 “localized” the national week of recognition as Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week.
This annual initiative features engaging activities including invasive plant removals, guided walks, film screenings, and more. Local organizations, ecologists, botanists, and community leaders partner to provide insights into the identification, prevention, and management of invasive species. And to show that it’s not all work, the IPTF’s annual Boogie For The Biosphere party culminates the week. Plan to join us in 2027!
Save the date for RISAW 2027: Sunday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 27. Volunteer events will require advance registration on CFEngage.

RISAW 2026

Despite late winter weather full of surprises, the task force and the ISM staff teamed up with 10 partners to host 15 events, including volunteer activities at 11 JRPS sites and other city parks.
More than 160 volunteers contributed nearly 400 hours of invasive plant control service!

Check back here in early 2027 for a full schedule of RISAW activities!
